Lion Karen Pryce (L) and Karen Buckles (R)

Lions Karen Pryce (L) and Karen Buckles (R) at one our many bookfairs.

Karen Buckles and Karen Pryce were the heart and soul of our club, especially our Pathways to Reading project.  Thanks to their hard work nearly 80,000 books have been provided free of charge to children who never otherwise would own a book. It was Lion Karen Pryce created our club’s “Reading Buddy’s” program as a companion program to pathways.

“The Karens” as they were known truly believed in our mission of “We Serve”.  They always supported our club projects and events. Their positive welcoming attitudes made every Lion, guest, and prospective member feel welcome and right at home. Both of our Karens were exemplary first ladies to their husbands who became District Governors and were welcome visitors to clubs all over their district. They were devoted to their husbands, children, and grandchildren with over 50 years of marriage.

Karen Pryce was known for her dedication to the Lions Vision and Hearing project and organized many glasses sorting “parties” and provided wonderful cookies. Karen Buckles was a constant presence at those events and served as Treasurer as well as holding many other leadership positions.

In recognition of their service and dedication to Lionism and especially our Pathways program, we have established this memorial fund to purchase a customized bench which will be placed in a special location at Shaw Butte Elementary School with a plaque honoring their service and memories.

All donations that exceed the cost of the memorial bench will be used to purchase books for our continuing Pathways Program. All donations are tax deductible.
